Well, FINALLY we have completed the play house to chicken coop makeover! I thought I’d show you guys the progress. It was a process. My husband and I spent multiple weekends tearing down and building up this monstrosity. I’m so thankful he is game for my crazy ideas! Remember, this is what it looked like when we started…First phase of the kid's playhouse to chicken coop makeover. There is a lesson in each step of the transformation. 1 Samuel 16

and this is it now!The chicken coop is complete, well, except for the chickens! The rabbits got an upgrade too with a large yard for a rabbit run. Salvaged materials make this space look like it's been there forever! We have a completely closed in yard for the chicks to hunt and peck. Hope they get busy because we have a load of bugs and creepy crawlies for them to get after! The wire portion of the roof is already stretched some from our unruly brood of squirrels that run rampant around the yard. The chicken coop is complete, well, except for the chickens! The little house is closed in with a few window areas for circulation (they are covered with wire but you can’t tell in the pics). We were able to re-use the door, shutters, metal roof and wood from the play house and only had to buy decking for the roof! The chicken coop is complete, well, except for the chickens! How cute are the little shutter doors that lead from the coop to the covered yard. The chicken coop is complete, well, except for the chickens! Not sure we will have enough chicks to fill all those holes, but it was a good deal so I scooped it. The chicken coop is complete, well, except for the chickens! We built an enclosed rabbit run so we can let them run around some and feel confident they won’t get loose. We never leave them unattended, but now we don’t have to hover over them. The kids were hesitant to play with them for fear the would run out of the yard or into the pool. The chicken coop is complete, well, except for the chickens! The extra shutters surround the entrance to the yard. If you need proof that holding on to old junk and roadside finds pays off this gate is it. We needed a gate for the yard and while looking at the hardware store and freaking out over the huge sticker price I remembered I had a gate that a friend salvaged for me two years ago! The gate works like a charm and adds an extra touch of upcycled fun! The chicken coop is complete, well, except for the chickens! The rabbits got an upgrade too with a large yard for a rabbit run. It’s fantastic and I did have to laugh at the number of chickens you could have with that round top find. Glad to hear that you are starting smaller . Lol!!

  2. This looks absolutely wonderful! The shutters and that round top find are awesome! Can’t wait to see pictures when the chicks arrive!

  3. I love rabbits!! They are so sweet and intelligent. Yours are beautiful! Can’t wait to see the chickens!

  4. Good morning Kim, you and your family are super handy!!! Love the idea of still having the mail box up. One thing for chichens, they do like to roost and having various heights from floor up like stairs but round poles would make them happy. Blessings and smiles. ????

  5. How nice for all the critters. Just a note -the Bun’s may need preventative flea treatments to ward off Flea’s and ticks when laying on the ground. There is a very specific cat flea treatment that can be used on rabbits. Your vet can advise you. I have 3 house buns and I let mine out once in the garden and my male got a tick on him which dug in and got big. It totally freaked me out. Blech!

    1. yuck, ticks are no good! I actually do use the flea treatment you are referring to, it helps with ear mites as well and one of my guys got some last year. I hadn’t thought about them being in the grass though, so thanks for the extra heads up, that’s a great tip! I will be diligent about their meds. 🙂
