DIY Decorative Candle Heat Gun Project

Don’t you just love a good candle. I mean even if they don’t smell they look pretty all glowing and dreamy. Well, today I have a fabulous craft project for you to transform a plain candle into a decorative candle. You are going to want to transform all the things. I have two super ideas to keep this DIY idea cheap for you, because y’all…candles can get expensive. Am I right? First, grab candles at garage sales. Lots of people sell the big fat ones, sometimes they are burnt a little, but you can really grab some good deals. If not try the flameless candles. I found mine at the 99 Cent Only Store for $5 for a set of two fat candles with real wax on the side that have a delicious vanilla. Score!

Next collect some little trinkets. I used tiny seashells from our summer beach vacation to Mexico and some pretty feathers from the craft store on my two decorative candle projects. But any of your favorite crafts supplies or nature finds will do, here is a list to get your creative juices flowing.

You will definitely want to grab the new Wagner heat gun, it’s small and handheld. You can grip it a variety of ways so it serves you well for a bunch of different project types. I personally love that you can use it hands free! It just came out and I have loved playing around with it, especially to jazz up these candles. I’m looking forward to doing some embossing and wood burning with the heat gun next.

Use the low temperature heat setting to soften the wax on the side of your candle (even the battery op ones if they have a wax finish on the outside!) and press and hold your trinket in the softened wax. Go piece by piece because the wax will harden up again pretty quickly. It takes a little practice, but the results are priceless!
