It’s summer and that puts a little crunch on the mom schedule. I like to change out décor and work on projects but with three pair of feet scurrying around it gets tough to find the time.

So today I am so excited to join with some friends and show you 10 ways to take stuff from the grocery and make it gorgeous (and I don’t mean food)

Chances are you have items sitting in your pantry right now that could become something amazing. Something crafty I already have…that’s all I’ve got time for these days!

There’s not much I love more than a good up-cycle and my eyes have learned to shop the grocery store shelves a little differently.

If I can buy an item in a pretty bottle versus an ugly box I go for the one I can use later. It’s the ultimate two birds, one stone scenario.

I collect all sizes and shapes of jars for easy projects. My husband even sticks the empties in the dishwasher to save for me. I have a closet full of them, they come in so handy!

For this simple summer table scape you just need a few supplies to transform your would be garbage into a stunning mercury glass tablescape.

Here is a list, with affiliate links. Just think you can have paint shipped to your house so you don’t have to drag kids to the store!

Supply List

That’s it!

I started by taping off the outside lip of my jar and wrapping it in plastic.

Next spray the inside with Looking Glass Spray Paint. Be sure to shake paint well and frequently. You will want to spray multiple light coats. Let dry completely between coats.

To seal the looking glass paint you need to spray it with a coat of gold spray paint. You could use any color, but I prefer gold. I love how some areas show the gold more than others for a touch of antique mercury glass feel.

You can even lift off some of the looking glass paint before sealing it to achieve a more dramatic look. I learned the hard way if you don’t seal it, the looking glass paint will come off when it is in water.

You can use this paint on any glass jars or vases you have. Mercury Glass votives and jars can cost a small fortune, but this version won’t break your budget. Now hunt your yard for sweet clippings and fill up your summer table with greens and glowing candles.

  1. These look gorgeous, Kim! I’m always a sucker for mercury glass. I’ve used that Looking Glass spray paint before and love it. I hadn’t thought of spraying the inside with gold – it looks great. Thanks for the ideas and for putting together the challenge.

  2. Its all so gorgeous! i tried the looking glass paint on plain glass christmas ornaments they turned out ok but not as good as your jars, so i might try spraying them with the gold first next time! Great inspiration!
    thank you!

  3. Great idea. I love how it turned out. ihave a TON of jars I have been saving and my husband is getting a little tired of them in the cupboard. So this idea would be perfect to reuse them.
