Host & Host Home Tour: Breakfast Nook/Sitting Area
If you checked in last week you saw the kitchen update. Which gave you a glimpse of our breakfast area and overall layout of the space. This week is a little more focus on the breakfast nook part. I love our big open kitchen and when we first moved in I used the space in the traditional breakfast table sort of way. We ate there every morning and night.
Then the food kept filling up the crevices of my farmhouse table and the unsightliness of it got on my ever lovin last nerve. I was so over that table. I had a new hunting mission.
But to no avail. I could not find a table I loved to replace the one we had. Then the light bulb moment happened.
My friend has a similar kitchen and she uses her space as a sitting area. I totally copied her. This actually helped in multiple ways. My dining room basically told me it was feeling neglected. The prettiest piece of furniture I own lives in that room and we never step foot in it. By eliminating the breakfast table the dining room is now used daily. It couldn’t be happier and neither could I. I saved money by NOT buying a new table and pulled a couch out of my living room to the kitchen. I couldn’t have searched and found a better fit if I tried!!! Check out the before and after here…
I forgot how bad my light choice was at first till I revisited these old photos! While remodeling I hit the “I can’t make one more decision or I might die” point and made a hasty choice in lighting. Luckily I found this amazing chandelier on a Round Top trip. (more about Round Top here and here)
It makes my heart happy.
It’s the little things y’all.
Another Warrenton/Round Top score (from the same trip none the less!) was this old fireplace surround. All it’s chippy peely glory just called my name. 
This rattan chair…a $40 steal from Habitat Restore. Recovered cushion of course.
And that’s our sweet girl…Gigi. She is a lazy bone. Below is the before view. It is during renovation, after we opened the wall up some.
The view I love the most is the one I get each morning. I nestle in my little kitchen couch. This space has become my spot in the house. I read my bible, drink my coffee and snuggle with my littles each day…and this is what I see. Well, Gigi is in my spot for this picture… Told you she was a lazy girl!

This fancy fun little coffee table fits this space so nice. I pulled it from our guest house. It is a treasure from a day of hunting in my secret favorite spot…Calvert, Texas. I have never seen anything similar before or since.
There was lots of mess and obviously the decorating is an evolution. That is what makes it fun. To develop a room over time. To learn how to love and use each space in your home. You don’t have to use rooms in your house in typical ways. Do what works best for you and your family. Check out the rest of the house here.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this space! We are almost done with updating a nook in our house, but I haven’t taken any pics so I don’t have a post to link. BUT, I do have a kitchen that I think needs fresh paint and maybe a recovered sofa – you want another project??

Every single time I look at these before and after pictures, I am just blown away by how gorgeous your made the kitchen and breakfast nook! Did you find the rattan chair at our local Habitat Restore? I’ve never been but now I know I need to go check it out! I’m a DIY-aholic lol.
🙂 Yes I got it local. The habitat stores are great, but I always think it is a right place at the right time thing. This chair had just came in so I was lucky enough to scoop it!

thank you! The space has been a good thing for our family! I hate that people feel tied down to use rooms the way they are labeled.
Love the colors! We live in an apartment, so our “dining room” is a play area for our kiddos. We moved the table into another corner of our living room.
