After dropping off my two big kids at school I drove the same way I always do. Like a beacon in the night this bright yellow gift shone from afar.crib
Of course I drove straight over and rescued this abandoned crib from the fate of the dump. Neighbors eyeballing me like I was a lunatic. The next day I went back and picked up the mattress because it was still there and I couldn’t just leave it all alone! (you saw it last week in the race is on) I’m kind of a sidewalk stalker. Big plans stirred in my brain for this crib rail. It’s destiny was a laundry room drying rack. We always have stuff that needs to hang out to dry.

I love it. I figure anything that can make laundry more enjoyable is a good thing. This whole laundry business has really got me thinking about gossip.

Maybe it is so heavy on my heart because I have a daughter who is almost 10 and I know what lies ahead in the tween/teen years. Girls can be flat out mean. Or it’s possible that I struggle with keeping thoughts and intimate details I’m privy to under wraps. Just sayin. I like to think I have come a LONG way since I was Mae’s age. But…I am a woman and we all struggle with this to varying degrees.

My fault is probably more heavily weighted in the direction of me desiring to know information that is none of my business. Not necessarily so I can share, but just because I’m nosey. Either way your scale tips, it’s wrong. gossipThis article was in our little local newspaper a while back  and caught my eye. I promptly cut it out and tacked it to the bulletin board by my computer so I can glance at it frequently. It’s good. The end questions are ones I ask myself all the time now, as a gatekeeper of sorts to my lips: Is it true? Is it harmless? Is it necessary? If not, don’t repeat it. Wow, it’s that simple.

Proverbs 31 reflects an amazing Lord fearing woman. This woman is a portrait of Godliness and an example of traits to strive for. One trait that jumped out at me as I read this chapter is noted in verse 27: She watched over the affairs of her household.

Notice how it says HER household. She isn’t watching the affairs of her neighbor, friend or enemy. She has her eyes on her business. The only laundry she is airing out is her own!  This trait is an important one if you ask me. The newspaper clipping provided says it best, but really – who needs more laundry to worry about!? If you want an even bigger reminder, check out this t-shirt or pillow I have for sale in my Etsy shop!

Dear God: Please help me keep my business and that of others to myself. Help me to be the kind of friend I desire to have. Help me to be a trustworthy servant, friend and wise woman. Amen

Proverbs 11:13 A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret.

Proverbs 12:18 Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

  4. I would have liked to see you paint the verse Proverbs 31:27 on the backboard. The lines of the boards just scream at me. Love all the inspiration, but mostly the fellowship with the Lord in all you do.

  5. I found a 6′ drying rack at an Ace Hardware “Haggle” sale. I offered $1 and hauled it home – now used as a blanket rack against the living room wall.
