Picket Fence Serving Tray

This picket fence serving tray has been designed in my mind for a while now. I told you guys it has been pretty quiet around our house the last month or so, but this is one of the very few projects I worked on and I LOVE it! Hopefully you will too!My fence picket obsession continues with this DIY picket fence serving tray tutorial.

As you know I am obsessed with the pile of old fence pickets a friend of mine gifted me with, they are a never ending source of inspiration. You can buy new fence pickets and stain or paint them to replicate the look of this project if you want one of your very own.   My fence picket obsession continues with this DIY picket fence serving tray tutorial.

Our kitchen island is rather large, so I always like something fun to display in the middle as a focal point and seasonal area in our home. The best part about making your own serving tray is the ability to make it fit your space EXACTLY. You eliminate trying to make store bought stuff work in your tiny space or searching for (and affording) items to fill a large area.My fence picket obsession continues with this DIY picket fence serving tray tutorial.

For this tray I simply cut the fence pickets in equal lengths, sanded and cleaned them. With left over wood I cut two cross bars to hold the tray together. I used wood glue to attached the cross bars and then secured them with wood screws for added stability. My fence picket obsession continues with this DIY picket fence serving tray tutorial.

You might want to add small felt pads to the bottom of your tray so it doesn’t scratch your countertops (I learned that the hard way 🙁 )My fence picket obsession continues with this DIY picket fence serving tray tutorial.

This picket fence tray would be great on a coffee table or even upright on the mantle. I am thinking about adding some handles so it is more “tray” like…what do you think? My fence picket obsession continues with this DIY picket fence serving tray tutorial.

Just so you guys don’t think we have our act all together over here I have a funny Valentine confession…I was the mom who was so proud the kids picked out their Valentine cards WEEKS ago, instead of running around like crazy the day before. They chose cute cards with emoji window clings, you know smiley faces with heart eyes, etc. Valentine’s eve the boys went to sign all their cards and discovered there were also poop emojis in the box. How is that even a thing?

I will never understand, but they thought it was the greatest thing ever and were fighting over who got all the poop emojis (that by the way said “you’re the bomb”). I NEVER saw that on the box! When I was little that would have been so embarrassing! To top it off when my youngest did his homework that night he wisely answered the following math question: Name two things in your house that are triangles. Poop emojis…of course.  So glad we could contribute to your window décor this week friends! We may have a beautifully set table at our house, but you can just guess what the dinner conversation is about! My fence picket obsession continues with this DIY picket fence serving tray tutorial.

It’s good to be back in the swing of things and I look forward to sharing some new thoughts and projects with you guys. As always I appreciate you stopping by and would love it if you’d share this project or take a minute to say hello.  Blessings friendMy fence picket obsession continues with this DIY picket fence serving tray tutorial.

  1. I too like the idea of handles, but good luck finding something that looks right with the picket tops sticking out. Let us know what you decided on.

  2. Yes, poop has gone from embarrassing to funny. Everything has changed since I was little. (Well, except the love of God????). Yes, I think I might like handles on the tray. It is really cute.

  3. LOVE it! I am addicted to creating things out of reclaimed wood and if I don’t have any on hand….I “make” my own
