You don’t have to be a pro painter to make wooden cutouts look cute. With a quick coat of paint and a fun trick your wooden eggs will be gorgeous in no time. I started off painting my wooden eggs a Robin Egg shade of blue with acrylic craft paint.

Next grab a stiff chip brush and a darker shade of wood stain. (You could water down some brown acrylic craft paint if you don’t have stain available. I just like the way the stain spreads and looks) Get a little bit of stain on the tip of your brush and use your finger to rub along the bristles, splattering the stain over your eggs. You might want to practice this on a piece of paper first. Less is better and you can always add more, but can’t take it away so start light and slow! I love the way this technique mimics a natural speckled bird egg. They are all different, some darker than others, some with lots of speckles, some with a few. They are so sweet!

Add a simple little bow by cutting a length of ribbon, a triple length of raffia and a small length of jute twine. Squeeze the ribbon in the middle, add the raffia and tie it up with the jute. Hot glue the bow a little off center and make sure you don’t glue it on top of the pre drilled hole, but do position the bow to hide the hole.

Now here are a few ways  you can incorporate these cute little dollar store wooden eggs into your spring decor.

Three Ways to Decorate With Dollar Store Eggs

  1. Create a Picture – Take a dollar store canvas and turn it into a wood frame. Remove the canvas by lifting away the staples. Stain the wood. Cut the canvas to fit the back of the frame and glue it into place. Glue your painted wooden egg on the canvas for a precious picture you can add to any spring vignette. It also looks good in a wreath!Three ways to use dollar store wooden eggs in your spring and Easter decorating, See how to paint these farmhouse style Robin Egg Blue eggs and three fun ways to use them in your decor. 2. Make Napkin Holders – Grab an empty paper towel or toilet paper roll and paint it to match your egg. Once dry cut the tube into 1/2″ pieces and hot glue them to the back of each egg for an adorable napkin ring. 3. Hang a Garland – Likely what these wooden egg cutouts were created for is an easy DIY banner. They really do look so sweet strung together and hung in the right spot. I love to decorate my vent hood, it adds a great spring feel to the kitchen. Layer your painted wood eggs over beaded garland, mix in some pom poms or tassels and hang your new spring garland in your kitchen, on the mantel, over a side board or on a wreath.
