We Got Ducks!
We got ducks and y’all, I can’t stand how adorable these little quackers are. They are seriously the cutest things, they make my heart swell. I know people think I’m a crazy bird lady now and I probably shouldn’t have this many animals but it’s the little things in life that bring me joy!!! Going out and being among my ducks and chickens is one of those joyful things.
Let me introduce you to my new flock of girls! They all have sweet French lady names (at least we’re hoping they’re all ladies! LOL).
This is Margaux she was the biggest when we got her and she is a personal favorite she’s such a sweetie!!! She loves to eat mealworms straight out of your hand, it’s a tasty treat they all enjoy.
Next is Toulouse, she is the friendliest of the bunch and my son Sadler’s personal favorite. And YES we do bring them inside sometimes and let him sit on our lap while we watch TV. It’s a great way to get your ducks friendly when they’re babies. The more you handle them and keep them close to you, the friendlier they are in the long run.
The yellow twins that will soon turn white are Bernadette and Pippi. They both tend to like lying down more than the rest of the ducks which is quite funny. Bernadette is a little more outgoing and Pippi is the most skittish and shy girl in the bunch. Bernadette has taken to quaking at our dog Oliver when he gets close. She must be the gaurd duck of the bunch!
The beauty queen of the flock is Chanel 9pictured below with Margaux). No one else in the gang looks like her beautiful gray sweet self. She has a curious attitude, is on the smaller side and we are all in love with this little girl. BTW – they are incredibly hard to photograph at this point! Better pictures to come!
Last but certainly not least is Fifi. Fifi is a gorgeous black duck and when she’s in the sunlight she has glimmers of beautiful iridescent green in her feathers. I can’t wait to see what she looks out like when she gets her full adult feathers in. It’s really fun to watch all the ducks change from sweet soft ducklings into their mature feathered selves. Fifi is the loudest duck which makes me wonder if she is a he, but that is yet to be determined. 🤷♀️
Each one certainly has their own personality and it’s so fun to watch them interact with each other, the chickens and our family. I’m having a blast learning each one of their quirks and styles. I can’t wait until I can let them free roam a little more, they’re not quite big enough for me to feel safe letting them go. I know they’re itching to get into all parts of the yard and wander around. It’s going to be so fun sharing pictures with you guys as those roaming treks begin. They seem to be mixing well with the big chickens so far. The gangs all here, LOL…
We also got a few Guniea Hens at the same time and these little guys think they are ducks. They move in sync like a herd. They are kind rough looking until they grow up and then they get much cuter. Guniea are often called alarm birds because they are great watchers of the surroundings and quite loud when danger is near. I am hoping they keep this crew safe!
Also, this is my sweetest chick – Big Red. She follows me like a puppy dog and let’s me hold her and rub her. She is so fun!
My other five chickens aren’t as friendly, here is one of them. She looks like she is dancing and mean, but she is really just funny. 🙂
