15 Tiny Ways to Add More Presence to Your Daily Routine
(A gentle guide to slowing down and savoring more of your actual life)
I’ve been thinking a lot about presence lately — how little pockets of awareness can change the way a whole day feels. I don’t mean big spiritual revelations or dramatic life shifts… just those small moments when you catch your breath, look around, and say, “Oh, this is my life right now.”

If you’re anything like me, you probably move through your day faster than you mean to. We multitask, we scroll, we think three steps ahead — and then wonder why everything feels blurry. So I’ve been playing with little habits that help me linger in the moment, just long enough to feel grounded, grateful, and awake to what God is doing around me.
Here are 15 tiny ways to bring more presence into your everyday routine. They don’t require a schedule overhaul or a cabin retreat in the woods. Just a willingness to slow down for a breath or two and pay attention.
1. Put one hand on your heart when you first wake up
Before your feet even hit the floor, pause and acknowledge that you’ve been given another day. Just that small gesture brings you into the moment.
2. Take the first sip of your morning drink with full attention
Notice the warmth, the taste, the way your shoulders relax. That little exhale? That’s presence.
3. Look out a window for 30 seconds before starting work
Let your eyes land on something real, the clouds, a tree, a shadow moving. It helps shift your brain out of autopilot.
4. Do one task today without multitasking
Wash the dishes, fold laundry, or stir a pot of soup with your whole mind and body there. It’s oddly calming.
5. Step outside once a day, even if it’s just to your porch
Feel the air. Notice the temperature. Let the moment meet you.
6. Slow your eating for the first three bites
Instead of inhaling your meal, savor a few bites. Taste the flavors. Presence often begins in the senses.
7. Choose one routine activity to do calmly
Your morning skincare, brushing your hair, making your bed, do one thing softly today. Pay attention and appreciate.
8. Sit in silence for one minute
I know, silence can feel awkward. But even 60 seconds can reset your whole nervous system.
9. Notice one beautiful thing in your home
A shadow on the wall, sunlight on the floor, the way a plant leans toward the light. There’s beauty hiding everywhere.
10. Practice “soft eyes” when you drive or walk
Instead of laser-focusing on the next thing, soften your gaze and let more of your surroundings come in.
11. Put your phone in another room for 20 minutes
Give yourself a tiny break from the pull of notifications. You’ll be surprised how different those 20 minutes feel.
12. Do a 5-second gratitude check-in
Just name one thing: “I’m grateful for _____.” Short, simple, immediate.
13. Touch something with intention
A warm mug, a soft blanket, the bark of a tree, your journal cover. Texture brings you back to the present.
14. Take one deep breath before responding
In conversation, in frustration, in decision-making — presence is often hidden inside a single breath.
15. End your day with a 10-second memory replay
Ask yourself, “What moment from today do I want to remember?” That one practice anchors the whole day in gratitude.
Presence doesn’t require perfection — just paying attention
You don’t need to overhaul your life to feel more grounded. Presence is a muscle, and these tiny pauses help strengthen it a little each day. When we learn to linger, even briefly, life feels more rich, more colorful, and more full of God’s quiet goodness.
If you love the idea of weaving more presence, noticing, and meaning into your everyday rhythm, you’re going to love what I’m teaching this year, an entire journey of slowing down month by month, savoring moments that usually rush past, and reconnecting with the beauty right in front of us.
But for now, try one or two of these tiny presence practices today. See how they shift your pace. See what they open in you.
And mostly… see how much of your life you get back when you simply linger a little longer. Be sure to save this post for later! If you want to join our Year of Linger Class, sign up for The Creative Faith Club here!
