40 Prompts for a Gratitude Journal
I’ve been thinking a lot about gratitude lately, not just writing down the big, obvious blessings, but noticing the tiny things woven quietly into my day. The things that are so easy to overlook but so beautiful when I slow down long enough to see them. Jesus says in Luke 16:10 that whoever is faithful in the little things can be trusted with much, and I think that applies so naturally to gratitude. When we learn to appreciate the small, simple gifts, it changes how we experience everything else.

I’ve been toying with the idea of creating a dedicated gratitude junk journal, something handmade or repurposed, full of pockets, tucks, tags, scraps, and imperfect little pages. I love the idea of writing one prompt per day on a fresh page. Maybe doodling a little, maybe adding a scrap or a memento, maybe making a tiny collage to reflect what stood out that day. Or even filling a handful of pockets with tags, each one responding to a prompt, tucked in like blessings waiting to be rediscovered later.
So I made a list, a creativity bank of gratitude prompts that look beyond the obvious and invite you to slow down and notice the small things God is doing all around you.
Here are 40 prompts to help you fill your gratitude journal with meaning, reflection, and delight. You can even get a printable list, scroll down!

Gratitude journaling isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence. It’s about noticing what you’d normally pass by. It’s about learning to see the fingerprints of God in the smallest corners of your life. And when you fill a journal, page by page, tag by tag, pocket by pocket, it becomes a tangible reminder of God’s faithfulness over time. Be sure to give yourself grace, maybe this is a daily practice, maybe it’s every few weeks. There is no right or wrong, gratitude is a game changer any time you let it surface.
