Christmas Tablescape PLUS Idea Tour

We are just days beyond the turkey, but you may have noticed…it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! We decorated our house, including this Christmas tablescape, over the weekend and it was SO MUCH FUN. We didn’t even break an ornament this year (yet)! I’m busy looking for fresh ideas to incorporate into my Christmas décor and the 27 other bloggers I have teamed up with this week have just the stuff I ‘m looking for! #christmasideastourChristmas table magnolia pecan transferware huntandhost.net

I hope you’ll check out the links below for ideas that will spruce up your camp this Christmas!

Today I am highlighting a homemade tablescape. It’s one anybody can put together.Christmas table magnolia pecan transferware huntandhost.net

You’ve probably heard me say FREE is one of my favorite words, it’s true.

My love of being inventive with what I have on hand (free), paired with the fact that I usually feel like I’m hemorrhaging money about this time every year had me merrily shopping my yard. It’s one of the best stores there is.Christmas table magnolia pecan transferware huntandhost.net

You can do it too…shop my yard if you live nearby or your own if not.

Or a park.

Or maybe a neighbor’s. I’d ask permission first. 🙂

Next, I shopped my cubbies and closets and dug out some plaid wrapping paper. Perfect.Christmas table magnolia pecan transferware huntandhost.net

Last year I bought a set of Johnston Brothers Winter scene plates on post Christmas clearance. For a silly low price.Christmas table magnolia pecan transferware huntandhost.net

Pulling them out of the dark recesses of my cabinets makes me happier than it should. They debut December and hibernate come March.Christmas table magnolia pecan transferware huntandhost.net

I kicked off with “wrapping” my dining table with two swaths of plaid gift wrap, taping it to the underside of the table so it stays put when my little people start messing with it.Christmas table magnolia pecan transferware huntandhost.net

I find that setting the table first…plates, napkins, flatware…makes it easier to design a centerpiece that works and leaves enough room for the real deal of eating.

Once the usual suspects (like my great grandmother’s monogramed silverware) were in place I layered treasures from the yard around a cake plate scattered with pecans (from our pecan trees).Christmas table magnolia pecan transferware huntandhost.net

I broke down and bought a bouquet of red roses from the grocery store as the centerpiece focal because, well, I just needed them.Christmas table magnolia pecan transferware huntandhost.net

Nestled in a silver sugar dish they are the crowning jewel of our little table.

We had dinner tonight with this lovely sight, lights shining behind us.Christmas table magnolia pecan transferware huntandhost.net

My kiddos love drinking out of fancy glasses. I love letting them. Christmas table magnolia pecan transferware huntandhost.net

  1. What a festive table! It’s rustic and elegant at the same time. Love all the pops of red and the family engraved silverware is fabulous!

    1. Poor Magnolia – they actually don’t grow that well right where I live and this one keeps looking half dead each year and still pulls through! You are welcome to come snip if you are ever in town 🙂

  2. Beautiful! You are clever to think of using wrapping paper as a table runner. I love your grandmother’s monogrammed silver and think that you are smart to actually use it. I’m like you, I try very hard to shop my house to decorate instead of buying new things.

  3. Loved your Christmas tablescape, especially the centerpiece!! Love the wrapping paper idea for the “runners”, too. Blessings to you…..

  4. I love your table simple but wonderful colors for Christmas,i love Christmas and what it represents so, i really don’t think there is anything ugly in any decorating we do.I know it makes your children feel special to eat at such a pretty table.

  5. I love this! I am not good at decorating but this is so simple I think I can do it. My favorite part is that your kids love drinking out of the fancy glasses and that you love letting them. I always let my kids eat off the china and never once did they break anything. I am doing my twig tree this afternoon!

  6. Your tablescape is beautiful! I’m really loving the traditional colors for Christmas this year as well. I remember getting to drink out of the big people glasses…it was such a treat. 🙂

  7. Kim,
Your table setting is beautiful and so inviting. Your dishes look like they have some blue in them which I love. I would love to have magnolia tree in the yard, but have managed to kill those planted previously. Pinned photos onto the Christmas in Texas Pinterest board and invite you to join as a pinner.

    Merry Christmas,
    Judith

  8. Sun a pretty table Kim! Your plates and silverware are perfect! You are brave to have your kiddos drink from fancy glasses. Love the natural elements you added to the table and the verse at the end:). Pinning and sharing. Thanks so much for sharing this @ Dream. Create. Inspire. Link. Take care, Tara
