You guys know I love to cruise the dollar store and often take you with me over on Facebook. I grabbed this cute little dollar store St. Patrick’s Day wreath and did a quick and easy makeover on it. I hope it gives you some ideas to add to your St. Patty’s Day decor.
I don’t really decorate much for St. Patrick’s Day but a cute little vignette for any holiday never hurt my feelings. I thought this wreath would look cute nestled among some other green decor. As I was reading a little about St. Patrick’s Day I read that the holiday evolved as a celebration of St. Patrick, an Irish man who spread the gospel to many parts of Ireland. He supposedly used the 3 clover shamrock as a teaching tool to represent the Holy Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Ghost. I didn’t do tons of research, so definitely do your own, but I thought that was a fun bit of info for this day that we usually just try not to get pinched!
To decorate this dollar store St. Patrick’s Day wreath I painted it off white and then dry brushed some green around the edges and on every other shamrock using acrylic craft paint. I also highlighted the banner in the middle by distressing the edge with the same technique.
Next I used regular school glue spread over the shamrock and cut up faux moss (or use Easter grass) and pressed it into the glue for a nice dimensional look.
Using a stamp I added 17 because St. Patrick’s Day always falls on March 17th unless the Easter holiday interferes, but that won’t happen again until 2060, so I think we are safe with 17!
I glued a few dollar store coins for an extra touch and added a simple raffia scrap bow. So simple and so cute!
Mixing old and new makes your dollar store crafts look elegant. I always try to add some vintage finds like these green bottles I’ve collected to my St. Patrick’s Day decor vignette. Enjoy setting up a small spot for your St. Patrick’s Day crafts and have fun with this holiday! Really festive! I collect green bottles too.
Aren’t they the best????????????
I love your total St Patty’s day display. I wish though that you had shown a picture of the wreath by it self. I would have liked to see what it looks like before adding it to the display.
Thanks for asking Linda – I went ahead and added a picture for you to see!
I’m on the same page with Linda. I’d like to see a picture of the wreath alone too. Could you make that happen? Your painting technique looks awesome
Yes! I added a picture of just the wreath for you to see! Hope that helps and thanks so much!
That helps so much! Thanks…now I’m off to the Dollar Tree
Miss Kim…you make the simple look so darn gorgeous!
well thank you – I love an easy project and budget friendly helps!
