Hunt & Host Home Tour: Master Bath

I think part of the reason this house was on the market so long before we bought it was the master bath. It was a deal breaker.

Tiny, cramped, a weird shade of pink with carpet from the 70’s.

In the bathroom.

Around the toilet.

I mean, gross.

I’m not gonna lie. It took some creative thinking to work this one out.

One of the most amazing surprise treasures in the house was the brick wall we exposed once demo began. Doesn’t it add an amazing texture to the room?

The countertops had been remodeled and I actually loved them and the sweet little sink in them. We re-did so much of the house, that for budget reasons, it helped to have salvageable cabinets and countertops in at least one room.

However, that meant we had to work with a semi pre-determined layout to our new master bathroom.

In order to get a bathroom you could actually walk in we had to eliminate a closet. That means creating a new place for a closet, cause you have to have one!master bathroom

We came up with a creative solution that works for us and built out a new closet and dressing area. We added a coffee bar and sitting area as a place for quiet time.master bathroom

It is amazing.

I hide here often.master bathroom

The bedroom part of this room is a work in progress and I will have to share it later. It is kind of my decorating nemesis at the moment.

You can view the rest of the home tour here.

Hope this inspires you to tackle something that seems tough today!

  1. i’ve been wanting to open up my bathroom also. i know i will lose the closet. where did you build one? and how does it work for you making the room smaller? peppi

    1. Hi Peppi, Our master bedroom is really big…the original owners did a big renovation way back and made a huge master bedroom. We actually built out a large closet in the bedroom. It made our sleeping area a more regular size. There was just no room in the bathroom. It works for us, others may think we are crazy! I always say when renovating just look for the places you are willing to give up space and make that work for where you need to gain space. Hope that helps! I will show the master bedroom soon. I am just not in love with it yet 😉

  2. Gorgeous!! And the brick wall – awesome! We just took off a bunch of layers from a wall and exposed some brick too – woot woot!! Featuring this now beautiful bathroom tonight on Trash 2 Treasure Tuesday. 🙂
