I’ve been wanting to add a vintage cubby to my house for a while now. I don’t have a ton of wall or counter space and I knew it would give me a fun place to decorate and show off some of my favorite small treasures. With all those little spots to decorate you can change them out and showcase collections, holiday decor, or fun knick-knacks.

As with most of my decorating, I feel like the perfect decor comes from a healthy mix of old and new.  Cubbies are the perfect stage for this new/old mash-up. Whenever you are ready to decorate a space like this, pull out alllll your goodies. Empty the cabinets, search the back of the closet and dump your decor stash.

Personally, I add in my favorite objects first. That way I make sure they get a good spot! Also think in triangles. When you are using a pop of color or separating out similar textures placing them in a triangle pattern across the cubby is easy on the eye. It gives a perimeter and grounding to the objects!

We placed this cute cubby on top of a cabinet in the living room. It’s not the spot I was thinking when I bought it, but I am loving it. With two story ceilings in the living room, I think this cubby fills the space so nicely. It really cozies up the room. I searched a while for this piece, so be patient if you decide to add one as well. Hopefully, you’ve got some good ideas to use on it when you find it.

  1. Your cubby looks great. I don’t think I have room for a cubby, so I took my vintage coke box, set it on the kitchen counter and filled it with miniatures. I love changing the seasons. I have gotten lots of compliments as well. Only with I had thought of it sooner. Great post.
