How to Make A Beautiful Terra Cotta Pot Rooted in Christ

This terra cotta pot was so simple to make. You can use any stencil that you like, but I just love the Rooted in Christ stencil. It really spoke to me. Plus, it is the perfect graphic to add to a planter!
Supplies for Terra Cotta Pot Rooted in Christ
- Mesh Stencil – Rooted in Christ
- Paint – Almond Daze
- Gel Art Ink – Well I Swanee
- Squeegee Tool
How to whitewash terra cotta pot
Start by adding light brush strokes of the almond daze paint across the terra cotta pot. This is called a dry brush technique.
Dry brush just means you barely get your paint brush wet with paint. Just brush all over in different directions to age the pot and give it a worn, distressed look. You can do this on a textured pot as well, like I show on these French Country Terra Cotta Pots.
ADD THE STENCIL
Now it’s time to add the mesh stencil. I love these stencils because they are sticky, making it so easy to add the paint. You don’t have to worry about the paint bleeding either. These stencils work like a dream!
Add a little painter’s tape to cover any area you don’t want painted.
NEXT UP…
Use a small paint brush to add the gel art ink to the pot.
Then you want to use the squeegee to pull the paint down the stencil to cover the open mesh area. Be sure to fill in all the open areas so you have a nice, clean finish.
Let the ink dry, or you can also use a wagner heat gun. I also added a quote to the back of the terra cotta pot. So the pot will look beautiful any which way you look at it!

My women’s group at church LOVES this project!! We’d like to do this at a Women’s event this winter. What is the smallest size pot that the stencils would fit on? We want to plant seeds (herbs that are mentioned in the Bible). We were wondering about a 4 inch pot? Thank you!!
