April showers bring May flowers and they showed up on my junk journal calendar planner this month! While I’ve been feeling lots of color this year, May brought a black and white vibe to my heart. Not really sure why, but I felt inspired to create the month in a strict two color palette.

I tend to lean toward neutrals, so the vibrant colors this year have been a surprise to me! Maybe this is a swing back to my normal!?

In case you are new here, I have a course on how to build this junk journal planner, complete with digital downloads of calendars, ephemera and more. When I started my personal planner I created a full year, each month having it’s own signature. Within the signatures, I used various papers, pictures and extra tuck in papers to create a surprise palette to create on each month.

I went ahead and added in all my important dates and holidays, but I leave the decorating/embellishment blank. Then I create as I go, each month thinking about what the next month’s vibe will be.

It allows me to document where I am creatively and creates an ongoing scrapbook of events, style and mood effortlessly. Plus it pushes me to be creative on a regular basis! You can see some past months here: March and April

Any of the color you see was inserted into the month BEFORE I added my monthly touch of art and theme. Like I said, those pages are there and I work with what shows up in any given month.

The month of May is FILLED with events for our family! Banquets, graduation, surgery, home comings and kids leaving. Maybe the mix of emotions has me begging for some calm!

This journal planner may look like a lot to put together, but it is such a joy. Honestly, I absolutely LOVE creating it, using it and sharing it!

This month I tried out some new matte black paint I heard about at the craft retreat I went to.

I also played with some DIY stencils I made.

Fun fact – I raised rabbits when I was little, so when I found an old rabbit catalog I scooped it up and used it in my planner as a fun look back to my glory days!

Every month has a prayer, sometimes I write it at the beginning of the n=month, sometimes the end. The flowers where the start and finish of the month for me and I had fun making them withOUT color!
