I’ve always loved the look of bunting! Honestly, who doesn’t? I know most of the time we see it for holidays like Memorial day or Fourth of July but I’m voting we make it an all-year thing! We can change the colors, add fun patterns, whatever we want to do!! There’s no bunting rules, right!? I’m about to show you a fun and easy way to turn a box into beautiful bunting, in no time!! It’s so easy!

what you’ll need

  • cardboard
  • paint (colors of your choice)
  • round sponge brush and regular sponge brush
  • water
  • jute twine
  • hot glue
  • circular lid (size is your choice, but mine was probably about 4 inches across)

how to turn a box into beautiful bunting

  1. Trace your circular lid multiple times on cardboard. The number of circles you need depends on how long of a banner you want to have– one circle makes 2 bunting pieces. After you’ve traced as many circles as you’d like, cut them all out.Make fun and easy holiday bunting from cardboard. 2. Get each circle fully wet with water. You don’t want to dip it in water or run it under, but just use your hands to fully cover the surface in water. This makes it easier to rip of the top layer and expose the corrugation. Make fun and easy holiday bunting from cardboard. 3. Fold the circle in half and cut on the fold.
  4. Again, paint color of your choice, but I chose to paint all of my pieces an off-white for the base color. I just used a sponge brush to cover the surface and didn’t worry too much about it being perfect! Make fun and easy holiday bunting from cardboard. 5. Then, I used my sponge brush to make a black strip along the bottom of each piece. Just about the thickness of the sponge brush itself, it doesn’t have to be perfect!
  6. Use your circular sponge brush, dipped in the paint color of your choice (I used gray here), and you’re effectively going to stamp it onto the cardboard. 7. Once all your pieces are painted and dry, put a line of hot glue on the back and secure your jute twine to it. This part is super simple, just make sure your strip of hot glue is in about the same spot on each piece or else your bunting is going to be a bit wonky. I just lined up 3 at a time and did the hot glue while they were laying next to each other. It helped keep me on track! And I used one of those rubber finger covers to push the jute down– touching the hot glue does not feel the best (been there)!
