This SIMPLE idea will put your old sewing patterns to good decorative use!
Y’all are going to LOVE this idea!!! I first came up with it a while back at my mom’s house and haven’t had a chance to share it. When I was at the 99 Cents Only Store the other day I grabbed a set of LED light candles for this project so I could use this crafty idea at our house. You can only do this sewing pattern decor idea with a battery operated candle!!!! No fire allowed.
I’ve shared before my love for vintage sewing patterns, but not for the traditional use. You can find these for next to nothing at thrift stores and garage sales, you may even have some old one in your sewing room. Grab one up for the quickest makeover you ever saw!!!
Next, get out your favorite candlestick(s).
Unfold your pattern, pick a good spot (I like to see the writing on the section I pick). Cut two squares a few inches wider than the candle holder part of your candlestick. I usually crinkle up the paper a bit.
Layer your two pieces of sewing pattern paper under a LED light candle and fluff them up like a skirt around your candle.
How cute is this little added touch to make a regular old candlestick situation gorgeous! Remember, only do this with a battery operated candle, it’s cute, but we don’t need to burn anything down!!! I love the battery operated candles better anyway for decor spaces because most come with built in timers, these did. With a timer your candles will actually get “light” and glow in the evenings for you with no effort on your part, so romantic! Be my bestie and share this precious idea or Pin it for later! Thanks a bunch!
Aww so cute
Thanks Norma, and as always…easy!!!
Kim, I’ve responded before that I can’t stand to cut up vintage patterns. But, I might have one that is too tattered to use. So, it may become one of your vintage pattern craft projects…I remember the vintage pattern flower idea too.
lol thanks Beth – You need to buy some old ones you aren’t attached to and use those!!!
Great idea, I wonder what a wreath made with pattern paper would look like?
hmmm….sounds like a project I need to try!!! thanks for the idea
Love this idea. In a gift store they use them in their gift Brown paper gift bags. I thought it was so neat.
that is great for the holidays and gift wrapping!
I love this simple but beautiful idea.
thank you Peggy!!!
You come up with such clever, yet simple, inexpensive décor ideas. Love this.
Thank you Toni that is a super sweet compliment!
Precious. Brings back memories of learning to sew with my Mama. Believe I still have patterns in my attic from childhood.
a project with memories built in is the best kind, go dig those patterns out!
I use patterns for my watercolor and collage paintings. Most recent was for sails on a boat….the dart markings were markings on the sails Painted on the pattern tissue to show the movement in the sails. They are wonderful in collages. Getting harder to find, however! The newer patterns have a heavier paper that is not as transparent.
what a lovely idea! I think they have so much creative potential and I agree the old ones are best!
I use pattern paper for tissue paper in gift bags! Makes for fun conversation and a cute gift bag! ♥️ Love all your vintage ideas!
That is such a fun idea!!! I need to try that!
