Wood and Metal DIY Hairpin Legs Table Idea

Sometimes junk just jumps at you. Sometimes it begs you to sit up and take notice. It demands to be made new. At least it does this to me. Am I alone?  This metal box had my name written all over it, kinda literally. It says Junker on the side. I knew it would make the perfect wood and metal hairpin leg table for our junk loving home. I debated various ways to bring this metal tub to life and decided some sleek hairpin legs would be the perfect match. Not wanting to drill holes into the metal a mixed medium kind of table was born. I have a complete supply list below so you can create your own masterpiece.

I decided to get some nice stain grade wood and use it as a bottom plate and a lid for this table. I cut the wood a little larger than the box and then routered the edges for a clean finish. *Can I side bar here and tell you how hard I thought this would be!? And how amazingly talented at woodworking you needed to be to do something like router. It sounds all kinds of fancy. Girl – it’s so easy. You just have to have the right tool and it’s a zip zip kind of project. This whole table was!

I attached these amazing hairpin legs I snagged by Crates & Pallet to the bottom stained wood piece. They are heavy, sturdy legs you can EASILY add to just about anything to create a table, chair, etc. They come in a variety of heights so you can make the perfect piece to fit your needs. You can find them on the Home Depot website and in the Spring of 2020 you can find Crates & Pallets gorgeous shelf brackets in The Home Depot! (like I used here and here)

I’m using a construction adhesive to attach the metal tub to the wood.

For the lid I secured small wood rails on the underside of the top piece to keep the lid in place. I love that this table doubles as hidden storage! Of course you could always just make a little table, no junk required.

Now I just need to decide the very best spot in the house! Should I use it as a bedside table, next to this cozy arm chair or can you think of another place it would come in handy?
