Vintage Storage in the Laundry Room

You can really dress up a boring laundry room with some creative vintage storage ideas, like this photo box decorated with an old sewing pattern! I’ve been showing you ideas to turn your laundry room into a little more inspiring space, because we all need clean clothes, but no one said it was super fun! Making the room pretty helps at least a little (so does this). 

Here I am sharing how I worked some vintage treasures into incognito storage solutions that double as pretty and useful for organizing miscellaneous things. I promise if you look through your closets and cabinets you have some storage solutions you never thought of. Organizing supplies can get expense, but they don’t have to be! 

I started by adding a shelf above my washer and dryer. I found that things gathered on top of them and while our laundry room isn’t the smallest I’ve ever had it doesn’t have counter space. When it is time to fold and sort I need the tops of the washer and dryer for business!

To make my own shelf I cut a piece of wood to fit my space and got inexpensive decorative shelf brackets from the hardware store. You have to look around a little but you will find some that don’t cost a fortune! I got mine at Lowe’s for under $6/each. I decided to attach the brackets to the top of the shelf so I didn’t have to get behind the machines and it added charm to the shelf, perfect for a built in book end. 

To decorate my space and make it feel like an extension of the house and not a sweat shop I mixed in some favorite vintage goodies and put them to work as storage in disguise! 

I was in need of a good box and I pulled this one out of my stash, clearly it doesn’t go with what I’ve got going on, but an update is so easy! I just painted the entire thing with a couple coats of chalk paint and then to add a little pizzazz to the top I decoupaged an old sewing pattern to it. I thought it was perfect for a laundry room, but really it would look good on any bookshelf in your house. Be sure to paint your surface with a light base coat before you adhere the pattern. Pattern paper is so thin you will see right through it.

A garage sale aluminum canister holds the lint and trash that comes from laundry. When I had a trash can on the floor it got in the way and everyone in the house used it for stuff so it was always full. Now they don’t even know about this one and walk the three feet over to the big trash can in the kitchen! Woohoo. Small victories friend. 

I keep spare batteries in the new sewing pattern box…

Of course the new vintage rolling laundry cart does the heavy lifting holding all my detergent and cleaning towels. These little changes have made such a big difference in the life of this room! I encourage you to make the most out of your small space (or big one) and especially to add beauty in the areas that aren’t always fun. So what do you think? Need a little upgrade?
